Salah satu ajang penghargaan terbesar di industri video game, The Game Awards 2021, telah menyelesaikan gelarannya. Acara ini digelar pada Kamis, 9 Desember 2021, pukul 17:00 PT (Pacific Time) atau Jumat, 10 Desember 2021, pukul 08.00 WIB.
Tidak seperti tahun lalu, The Game Awards kali ini diadakan secara offline di Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, Amerika Serikat. Pihak penyelenggara turut menyediakan siaran langsung yang bisa disaksikan secara daring di situs resmi The Game Awards.
The Game Awards 2021 menjadi acara besar yang mengapresiasi kontribusi pelaku dan penggiat industri video game serta esports. Acara ini juga menampilkan sederet teaser atau debut game-game baru yang belum pernah muncul sebelumnya.
Untuk tahun ini, peraih titel “Game of the Year” adalah It Takes Two. Game action-adventure berformat platformer ini secara mengejutkan mengalahkan nama-nama besar seperti Resident Evil Village dan Metroid Dread.
Game garapan Hazelight ini bisa dibilang cukup mendominasi The Game Awards 2021. Selain menjadi yang terbaik, It Takes Two juga memenangkan titel “Best Family Game” dan “Best Multiplayer Game”.
Ada juga nama-nama besar lain yang memenangkan nominasi penting seperti Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy yang memenangkan “Best Narrative”, Forza Horizon 5 dengan dua trofinya (“Best Audio Design”, “Best Racing/Sports Game”, dan “Innovation in Accessibility”), serta Genshin Impact sebagai “Best Mobile Game”.
